Downtime Band provides live music for events both locally and nationally. The goal is to provide the best entertainment available for weddings, corporate events and private parties. We are committed to making it easy for the client by being able to fulfill all of their live music needs. Downtime employs over 25 musicians and has two full variety bands, numerous small jazz ensembles, one large jazz ensemble, and many ceremony musicians. All employees have studied music at the college level and do this as a profession, not a hobby. The bands or groups are rehearsed regularly and each musician must perform at a certain level to be employed.
Variety Band
Downtime is a professional band in which each member has more than 10 years of performing experience. We play at weddings, corporate events and private parties. Being based out of St. Louis, allows us to travel throughout the Midwest very easily. Our goal is to provide fun and professional musical entertainment of all genres to all audiences. With Downtime’s wide variety of music, high energy, and quality sound, everyone will be sure to have a great time.

The variety of our comprehensive song list allows us to satisfy any audience. We are willing to learn, rehearse and perform up to 2 songs that can be included throughout the special night (such as the bride/groom first dance, father-daughter dance, etc.). Music will be provided during all band breaks to ensure continuous listening pleasure. The break music list can be collaboratively decided upon to supply the desired blend of musical diversity that best fits the special event. The band also offers a continuous band option where the band does not take a break. This can be requested for an additional cost. Emceeing adaptations will be made at the client’s discretion, as well as band size, instrumentation and acoustical levels to accommodate any facility. Included will also be a meeting up to a month prior to your event with Jon. Dance lights are an option at the request of the client. The group’s standard attire is a formal tuxedo for weddings and corporate parties, but casual wear is also available upon request. With the vast selection of options, Downtime guarantees complete satisfaction.
Downtime offers many different options for the variety band. Alterations to any of the following groups can be made to best fit any wedding reception or event.
- Standard 6 Piece Group (Male & Female Vocals, Keyboard, Guitar, Bass, Drums)
- 7 Piece Group (Standard Group Plus Saxophone)
- 8 Piece Group (Standard Group Plus Saxophone & Trumpet)
- Additional Female Vocalist can be added to any size group
- Percussion/Background Vocals can be added to any size group
Small Jazz Ensemble
Downtime’s small jazz ensemble is perfect for a cocktail reception, dinner reception or background music at a corporate event. All band members have a strong background in jazz, with 12 of its members holding Bachelor of Arts degrees in Jazz Performance and the other members having studied jazz extensively while at a major university. The group plays a variety of jazz standards. Downtime offers many different options for
the small jazz ensemble.
- Jazz Duo – Piano/Sax, Piano/Bass,
- Jazz Trio – Sax/Piano/Bass, Piano/Bass/Drums
- Jazz Quartet – Sax/Piano/Bass/Drums
- Guitar can also be substituted for the piano in any ensemble and male/female vocals can be added to the jazz quartet.
Large Jazz Ensemble
The large jazz ensemble is Downtime’s newest addition. The idea presented itself as more clients requested all big band and swing music for wedding receptions, corporate events and private parties. This is a ten-piece band that includes 2 vocalists (male &
female), piano, guitar, bass, drums, alto sax, tenor sax, trumpet, and trombone. The group plays music by Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Bobby Darin, Louis Prima, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughn and many more. The Large Jazz Ensemble is designed primarily to be an all swing/big band dance band. You can also combine some of the material performed by this group with the variety band option.
Downtime will be sure to make any event memorable. We will coordinate all of the details with you before hand to make sure the night runs smoothly. We love to perform and have fun on stage, which always has a contagious effect on our audiences. These aspects and many others are very important factors that will contribute to the success of your event.
